What stand down periods apply to FreeCover?

A 5-day stand down period applies from the time your FreeCover policy starts for illnesses your puppy or kitten develops. However, no stand down period applies to accidental injuries.

FreeCover excludes congenital and pre-existing conditions, routine checks, vaccinations and viral conditions, neutering, cruciate ligaments and patella luxation. You can see all FreeCover’s exclusions in this policy document
Do I have to buy a policy if I get FreeCover?

No - when you choose FreeCover, you’re under no obligation to take out paid pet insurance with Southern Cross Pet Insurance. But there are two great reasons to choose a PetCare or AcciPet policy once your 6 weeks FreeCover ends. First - you’ll get continued cover for any conditions we've covered during your FreeCover period (as long as you meet the T&Cs of the new policy). And second - stand down periods will be waived on your new policy (excluding dental care extra which has a 90-day stand down period).
